A Case Study of Micro-Blogging for Learning at Qualcomm November 19, 2009

Below are the slides from my presentation at DevLearn 2009. I co-presented this session along with my colleague, John Polaschek. The presentation had two main areas of focus:

  1. How micro-blogging can be used to help facilitate discussions and knowledge-sharing between employees
  2. How Qualcomm is using Yammer to help employees connect across divisions and geographic regions

I hope you enjoy it, even though you won’t have our charming personalities to accompany the slides! 🙂

@Manish – Thank you for your comments, too. We did have senior management involved. It took some convincing, but they finally decided to let us give it a shot. Be persistent! Show them case studies and examples from different companies and I hope they will begin to see the potential value for your organization. Good luck!

You guys did a great job with the presentation and I got a lot out of it. I’m still curious how you convinced the powers that be that moving from the free version to the paid version was the right decision. Do you have a business case doc that you can share? Something that we could leverage (nice way of saying steal) within our org to help us with our own biz case?

Thanks, Steve!! I wasn’t involved with the discussions about the paid version. That was handled by upper management after they had a grasp of Yammer. So, I would say: educate, educate, educate. Then, if they see the value, they’ll probably pay up. Good luck, and keep us posted!
